Overcoming Fear

40 Things to Give Up for a Better Life
#31 Letting Fear Derail Me
Last night I had a vivid dream. I was walking down the road practicing a song. Then suddenly I was in an enormous auditorium, waiting my turn to sing. When they called my name, I walked up to the stage. Suddenly I couldn’t remember the words of the song. Panic filled my entire being. The only song lyrics I could think of were to “The Lord’s Prayer.” I began to softly sing in a shaky voice. Something strange and wonderful happened. I forgot about the audience and sang from my heart. On the last line, “…for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.” I closed my eyes, raised my arms wide and sang at the top of my lungs. I heard the audience applauding and realized my fear of being in front of a crowd had disappeared. I felt such a joy of accomplishment and pride at overcoming obstacles.
It was as if the applause was God showing His pleasure because of His creation’s unabashed worship of Him. I realized God loves when I forget myself, my fears, my self-conscienceness and do what He has called me to do.
It’s time for me to stop letting fear derail me from the path God has for me.
How about you? Do you want to feel fearful? Or would you rather feel the pleasure of your Creator?
