“The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.”
Psalms 116:5-7 NIV
Today, Good Friday, I’m thinking about Jesus’s sacrifice. We celebrate his death on the cross today. On Sunday we will rejoice in the resurrection.
But for today, I meditate on how much he suffered and was beaten. How he died in such a cruel, torturous way.
The thing is, he was willing. He allowed all of the painful beatings, the mocking and finally the crucifixion because of his great compassion for humanity…for me…for you.
You are gracious and righteous.
You are full of compassion.
Your death gives us life.
Your gift saves us.
In you we find rest.Amen.
