The Truth: You are loved. You are Beautiful. You have a purpose.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
‭‭1 John 4:18 NIV‬

Where do we try to find perfect love?

  • A husband or wife
  • A friend
  • A parent
  • A child
  • A pet

I admit as a child I dreamed of a “Prince Charming” with whom I’d live happily ever after. As an adult I’ve expected my friendships to grow into deep, lifelong relationships. The day my daughters preferred friends to me was devastating. I’ve even thought my silly cat, Mo, would sit calmly, lovingly next to me, never demanding, never irritating me by chewing on my yarn.

Everyone of them let me down. Why? Because they are all imperfect human beings (except Mo, although he thinks he’s part dog.)

It’s taken me half a century to learn that God is the only giver of perfect love. And with his love comes peace.

God is the giver of perfect love. God alone.

Lord,

I thank you for your perfect love.

Your love drives out fear.

Your love brings peace

in place of my fears.

As I begin today,

I need your perfect love.

Amen.
