How Do You Love?
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
1 John 3:18 NIV
I have this adorable cat, Luna, who purrs whenever close by. She can’t seem to help telling me how much she loves me.
When I’m unable to sleep she comes, lays up against me, deliberately putting a paw on my back and purrs loudly until I fall asleep.
That is love in action.
Just like Luna’s act of empathy, our love should be recognized by what we do, not just what we say. That’s a hard one, eh?
Love equals action.
Love requires more than a silver tongue.
Love is truthful.
I’ve fallen victim to the smooth speech, only to be disappointed. Conversely, I’ve been the recipient of unexpected compassion.
And others have been hurt by my empty promises.
Loving well is not an easy task. But it is a request from the Creator of love.
Teach us to love,
Not from a distance,
Not with our words alone,
But with our actions
May we love truthfully.Amen.
