God is Not a Critic

“If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”
‭‭1 John 3:20 NIV‬

If you’re like me, you’re your own worst critic. I see all my own flaws, my weaknesses and especially my sins.

Sometimes I berate myself for past sins.

Other times I sink into a sadness when I fail.

Many times I compare my attitudes and actions to the “perfect Beth” version I’ve created.

Can you relate? Do you beat yourself up too?

I love this verse so much. It reminds me that God is the final judge, not me. And He has forgiven, is forgiving and will always forgive me.

He sees me clearly, something I can’t do.

And God knows me better than I know myself.

Lord,

Thank you for forgiving me,

For knowing my heart,

For showering me with love

When I feel I deserve condemnation.

Amen.
