When God Has to Repeat Himself 3 Times

“By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.”
Psalms 42:8 NIV
I woke up thinking, “I think I feel better. I can work today.”
Then I took a shower.
The steam brought on a coughing fit which lead to a headache. Suddenly I was trading my work clothes for a comfy shirt and leggings.
Another day at home.
So I made some oatmeal and opened my Bible. Leviticus, ugh. The day required a little extra reading. My go to book: Psalms.
Here’s what I read:
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” -Psalms 42:5 NIV
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” -Psalms 42:11 NIV
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” -Psalms 43:5 NIV
I’ve read these two Psalms many times and never realized they had the same words three times, twice in Psalm 42 and once in Psalm 43.
Sometimes God has to repeat things before I will listen. Do you have that problem?
Sometimes God has to say, “hey, knucklehead. I’m here. You can trust in me.”
Lord,
I sometimes forget who’s child I am.
I forget your love is directed at me every morning,
And you fill me with your song at night.
I put my hope in all the wrong things,
And wonder why I feel disturbed and downcast.
You are the God who give me life,
The God who loves me.
The God who give me hope.
Help me remember.
Amen.
