Be Still

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””
Psalms 46:1-3, 10 NIV
With this pandemic comes a desire for the latest news. And slowly over the past week, I have added back all the news apps I so wisely deleted a year or so ago. I’m finding I want to know what’s happening every minute of every day. It’s not healthy. I find my minutes logged on my iPhone social media apps skyrocketing. That’s not healthy either.
And so with today’s verses of encouragement and admonition, I’m:
- I’m deleting all the news apps, but one local and one world app.
- I’m turning on music instead of news radio
- I’m setting down my phone and picking up a book.
- I’m picking up a pen and journaling my memories and emotions.
Lord,
Help us to be still,
To stand and watch the sunrise
To sit still and listen to the birds,
To kneel and talk with you,
to lay and ask for your peace as we go to sleep.
Amen.
