“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9 NIV
At lunch the other day, my friend spoke of her exhaustion. Children, a husband, a job. They all need her, and it seems the moment one task is completed another drops onto the ToDo list. She has no extra time or strength to help those outside her immediate family.
- Can you relate?
- Do you feel overwhelmed with your own life’s responsibilities?
- Do you feel guilty when you read verses about helping others? Doing good?
- Do you wonder how others can be so passionate about causes?
I’ve felt that way too. Some stages of life wear us out. Some days all we can do are the “basics.”
I like this verse because it acknowledges our weariness. It doesn’t say, “Do, do, do. What are you complaining about?” It says, “Yes, you can. I see your weariness. I understand. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Don’t give up. You can do it!”
Give us the strength to keep doing the good you’ve created us to do.
Thank you that someday we will see the results of our hard work.Amen.
