“Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “ Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
Galatians 4:6-7 NIV
Yesterday I finished the book, “Once We Were Strangers” by Shawn Smucker, the story of a friendship between an American and a Muslim.
One scene in the book struck me deeply. Mohammad’s son lovingly called him Abba, father in Arabic. With Mohammad’s son on his lap, faces centimeters apart, his son whispered Abba in his ear. What a beautiful picture.
Galatians says we can call our Heavenly Father Abba. We are his sons and daughters. We can have the intimate relationship of a child with good, kind, loving dad…Abba.
Thank you for loving me, for holding me tightly in your strong, safe arms.
Hold my hand today as we walk through this life together as parent and child.
